Pfizer Donation Helps Hospitalized Veterans Call Home
In a display of patriotism, Pfizer Inc recently donated $20,000 to support Operation Uplink.
The funds will be dedicated to "National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week," recognized annually in February.
"Operation Uplink is a very valuable program, and Pfizer is proud to support the armed
services and veterans in this way," said Jim Wood, Government Accounts Manager at Pfizer Inc. "As an Air Force
veteran, I know firsthand the positive impact a phone call home can have on a hospitalized veterans' spirit."
Pfizer has a longstanding commitment to helping hospitalized veterans as well as its military employees and all
active duty troops. In fact, in 2001, the company partnered with the VFW to build awareness of diabetes detection and
prevention, and has also donated several sizable gifts to Operation Uplink in the past.
"Without question, Pfizer is a true friend to veterans," noted John J. Senk, Jr., Adjutant General. "We're delighted
at how generously and selflessly they have directed their resources to support the men and women who serve - or
have served - this nation in uniform. We are particularly grateful for the timeliness of this gift. Today,
Operation Uplink is facing a critical shortage of funding, given the dramatic demand
for phone time in current world conditions."
